Principal Engineering Technician (Region 10)

Construction Program Group Principal Engineering Technicians perform complex civil engineering technical support activities for engineering projects and programs. This includes but is not limited to:
o Field positions - serving as a construction inspector on various road, bridge, and appurtenance construction projects, reviewing the technical accuracy of plans and documentation in contracts and proposals, supervising and training subordinate technicians, inspecting portions of major projects, and serving as a project office engineer o Technical Services positions - asphalt/concrete plant inspection, project site material testing, material approval after testing, pavement and bridge deck coring, geotechnical boring, geotechnical testing, and technical document preparation. o Regional Construction Office positions - processing contract acceptance, uncompleted work agreements, contract final agreements and archiving of record plans. Additional responsibilities may include serving in a role within the Incident Command System to support the Department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations. The PET would be supervised by an Assistant Engineer or Professional Engineer 1.

Salary Range:
From $53826 to $68511 Annually
Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable list does not exist a provisional appointment may be made. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. In order to be considered for provisional appointment:
PROMOTIONAL:
you must be a qualified employee of New York and have one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive as an Engineering Geologist, Engineering Materials Analyst, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Junior Engineer, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetic), Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils). OPEN COMPETITIVE:
Either 1. FOUR years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority; Or 2. a bachelor's degree in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics; Or 3. an associate's degree in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics AND TWO years of experience listed above in #1; Or 4. a certificate in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, or electronics issued by a regionally accredited college or university and THREE years of experience listed above in #1. Certificates from Trade or Technical Schools will be accepted only if they are institutions that are regionally accredited or recognized by the NYS Department of Education as following acceptable educational practices. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
