Senior Engineer Technician (Region 10)

Senior Engineering Technicians perform civil engineering technical support activities for engineering projects and programs. This includes serving as a construction inspector on various road, bridge, and appurtenance construction projects. SETs ensure that the orders and directives of higher level engineers are properly carried out. SETs work at various levels of expertise and experience, which allows them to work independently under supervision of AE and PE1 engineers. SETs can also function in Regional Office roles, including but not limited to MURK review, Change Order review, or Subcontractor Approval groups. They can also work in the Technical Services group, working in the concrete, asphalt and geotechnical units. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System (ICS) to support the Department's response to regional and/or statewide emergency situations.
Job Function

Salary Range:
From $45617 to $58374 Annually
Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable list does not exist a provisional appointment may be made. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. In order to be considered for provisional appointment:
PROMOTIONAL:
you must be a qualified employee of New York and have one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive as an Assistant Drill Rig Operator, Assistant Land Surveyor 1, Assistant Land Surveyor 2, Drafting Technician, Drill Rig Operator, Engineering Technician, Environmental Engineering Technician 1, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetics), or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils). OPEN COMPETITVE:
Either 1. TWO years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from a high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority; Or 2. 18 semester credit hours in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics or electronics technology AND ONE year of experience listed above in number 1; Or 3. 36 semester credit hours in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics or electronics technology.
