Senior Engineering Technician (Region 10)

Under the direction of a Civil Engineer 1 (PE1)/Senior Transportation Analyst, the candidate will work in a section of the Regional Traffic Engineering and Safety Group. Duties of this position may include but are not limited to the following:
o Conduct design reviews of all permit applications, plans, traffic engineering and safety studies and environmental studies submitted by applicants as per the policies and guidelines of NYSDOT. o Conduct meetings with municipalities, applicants, design consultants, developers, utility companies and civic groups. Respond to telephone or emails inquiries from consultants, developers and public and provide guidance from traffic groups perspective. o Conduct traffic operations and safety studies in response to inquiries from the public, elected officials, or as requested by the Regional Traffic Engineer. These studies are conducted to address safety, operational and capital program needs within different geographic areas in Long Island. o Collecting data and review data collected by Consultants. o Developing recommendations for traffic operations and/or safety improvements. o Preparing draft letters for the Regional Traffic Engineers, Regional Directors, or Commissioner's signature. o Preparation of technical correspondence for written and oral presentation. o Review construction projects from a traffic perspective (signs, markings, etc) and develop a punch list if required for resolution before contract acceptance. o Performing studies as requested by the supervisor. Preferred candidates will possess good written and oral communication skills as well as proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Salary Range:
From $45617 to $58374 Annually
Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable list does not exist a provisional appointment may be made. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. In order to be considered for provisional appointment:
PROMOTIONAL:
you must be a qualified employee of New York and have one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive as an Assistant Drill Rig Operator, Assistant Land Surveyor 1, Assistant Land Surveyor 2, Drafting Technician, Drill Rig Operator, Engineering Technician, Environmental Engineering Technician 1, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetics), or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils). OPEN COMPETITVE:
Either 1. TWO years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from a high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority; Or 2. 18 semester credit hours in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics or electronics technology AND ONE year of experience listed above in number 1; Or 3. 36 semester credit hours in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics or electronics technology. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
