Our client is a leading worldwide provider of highly specialized test and measurement equipment and microelectronic solutions for the aerospace and space industries.

This company is looking to hire a Sr. Project Design Engineer for their corporate headquarters in Hauppage, NY.


Summary
This position will be a part of the leadership of the Engineering organization for the Motion Control Solution. Works independently or collaboratively to provide the complete design of motors, servo actuator systems and space mechanisms. This includes initial concept, design, analysis, prototype testing, and supporting component development through product qualification and final production.


Position Description
Responsible for the detailed electro mechanicals systems design from concept through final customer delivery. These components include electric motors, precision gear trains, servo/feedback systems, and associated electronics and packaging. Responsibilities also include writing test procedures, verifying and validating designs, and preparing design review material for presentations to customers and peers. Additionally, works with limited supervision from the Engineering Director and Program Manager to provide technical oversight for various programs from concept through final customer delivery.

Essential Mechanical Engineering Duties and Responsibilities
Lead mechanical engineering tasks related to component design (stress analysis, material selection, sizing, etc.), manufacturing process definition, and final testing.

Perform mathematical calculations, FEA modeling, tolerance analyses, direct designers and drafters to prepare detail and assembly drawings per ASME standards.

Perform and review thermal analysis for electro-mechanical systems.

Develop and coordinate milestone schedules for detailed engineering tasks.

Perform to the program schedules established by the program managers.

Conduct investigations or tests of varying degrees of complexity pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, or processes.

Investigate possible application of results, applying training and experience in one or several specialized branches of engineering.

Obtain, correlate, and analyze technical information needed to accomplish assigned tasks.


Other Duties and Responsibilities
Activities may include interacting with government and commercial customers on technical matters, requiring excellent technical presentation skills. Participate in peer reviews, and problem solving meetings. Prepare and present technical material for design reviews (PDR/CDR). Direct designers and oversee technical projects and timelines.

Education and/or Experience
BS Mechanical, Mechatronic or Aerospace Engineering and 10
years relevant experience.
Aerospace/Defense/ANSYS/ProE expertise.
M.S. Preferred

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
